The Wine:
Domaine de Bellene is the creation of Nicolas Potel – the son of the legendary Gérard Potel of Domaine Pousse d’Or. Potel's name has become synonymous with Burgundian wine and he is known for constantly challenging the borders of traditional winemaking in the region.
This is one of the oldest vines of Domaine de Bellene. Situated in the village of Pommard, the vineyards were planted in 1928 and the plot was bought by Nicolas Potel's parents in 1978. This plot always produces well balanced wines, and it has been farmed organically since 1992.
Showing exceptional depth and length with plenty of ripe, sapid red fruits. The nose is attractive: the strawberry, raspberry and cranberry fruit have an earthy-twiggy depth, with a hint of cinnamon spice too. The tannins are fine and silky, and the lively acidity infuses the fruit on the palate with a pleasant juiciness.
